Jaipur was established by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh-II in 1757 AD. He was a famous architect. The name of Jaipur has been recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records for its architecture. Jaipur is the first planned city of medieval times.
Hawa Mahal was designed by Lal Chand Ustad and built by Maharaja Pratap Singh (Grandson of Sawai Jai Singh) in the year 1799. It has 953 honeycomb windows which are known as “Jhorokha” in the local language. This is the palace of winds/breeze. Red and pink sandstone is the major material used for constructing the Hawa Mahal. It is a five-story building.
The Jantar Mantar of Jaipur is an astronomical observatory built by Sawai Jai Singh between 1724 and 1734. It is included in UNESCO’s ‘World Heritage List’. There are 14 major instruments in this observatory, which are helpful in measuring time, predicting eclipses, knowing the position and movement of a star, knowing the declination of the planets of the solar system, etc.
City Palace was also built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh-II. The City Palace, a former royal residence in Jaipur, a fusion of Rajasthani and Mughal styles, is located in the heart of the old city. The carved arches, resting on brown marble pillars, are ornamented with floral motifs of gold and colored stones. Two carved marble elephants stand like sentinels at the entrance.
Jaigarh Fort is a fort built on the top of Amer Fort and Mawta Lake on Cheel Ka Tila in the Aravalli Range in Jaipur, the capital of the western Indian state of Rajasthan. This fort was built by Jai Singh II in 1667 AD to protect the Amer fort and palace complex and is named after him. The World’s largest cannon Jaivana Cannon was installed in the Jaigarh Fort.
Amber fort was founded by ruler Alan Singh of the Chanda dynasty of Meenas. In Amber fort, there are many courtyards. Sila Devi Temple, Jalebi Chowk, Elephant Temple, Sheesh Mahal, and Mirror Palace are the main palaces of the Amber Fort.
Albert Hall Museum gets its name from The Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the inspiration for its design. Sir Swinton Jacob designed it using styles from Indo-Saracenic architecture and the Prince of Wales laid the foundation stone of the building in 1876. This is built in Ram Niwas Garden. The museum displays metal objects, wood crafts, carpets, sculptures, arms and weapons, and ivory goods.
Nahargarh Fort was built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh-II in the year 1734. Nahargarh Fort offers spectacular views of the city of Jaipur. The fort was originally named Sudershangarh, but it became known as Nahargarh, which means ‘abode of tigers’.
The Galtaji pilgrimage is located about 10 km away from Jaipur in the Indian state of Rajasthan. Natural springs flow down the hill, filling several sacred kunds (water tanks) where pilgrims bathe. The two kunds are separated for male and female. Visitors and pilgrims can climb the crevasse and reach a hilltop temple from where they can see Jaipur and the fortifications of the city.
Jal Mahal is commonly believed to have been constructed by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh in 1799 as a hunting lodge. According to some people, Maharaja Madho Singh-I constructed this palace around 1750. Jal Mahal is a palace in the middle of the Man Sagar Lake in Jaipur.
It is a square stepwell with stairs on all four sides. A visit to this amazing Kund is well worth it, and the stepwell has been maintained by the local municipality for the past twenty years.
